New Research Demonstrates the Connection between Homelessness and Housing Affordability

Communities where people spend more than 32 percent of their income on rent can expect a more rapid increase in homelessness, according to new Zillow-sponsored research on the size and root causes of the nation's homelessness challenge.
This research demonstrates that the homeless population climbs faster when rent affordability – the share of income people spend on rent – crosses certain thresholds. In many areas beyond those thresholds, even modest rent increases can push thousands more Americans into homelessness.

SNAP E&T State Institutes Opens Call for Applications

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering an interactive training for staff and leaders of state SNAP Employment and Training Programs (SNAP E&T). Participants will work with colleagues to gain skills and develop plans to advance their state's SNAP E&T Program. Applications from State SNAP agencies are due January 7, 2019, and may include non-State partners (e.g, State workforce agencies or SNAP E&T providers) on the proposed participant list.
