The SAMHSA SOAR TA Center is excited to announce the official launch of the

SOAR Online Course: Child Curriculum

The SOAR Online Course: Child Curriculum trains case managers to assist children (under age 18) who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder to apply for SSI.
This new curriculum follows the same model of the SOAR Online Course: Adult Curriculum. The course includes seven classes with articles and quizzes to test your knowledge as you go. There is also a "Practice Case" that provides a unique opportunity to put what you are learning into practice by completing an SSI application for a fictional child applicant.  We provide the progress notes, medical records, interview videos, and all the forms you need to complete and submit your Practice Case Application to the SAMHSA SOAR TA Center for individualized review and feedback.
The curriculum is free to access and can be completed at your own pace. We estimate that it takes 20 hours to complete.
The release of this curriculum not only fulfills a need expressed by the SOAR community, but will also be an instrumental tool in ending youth and family homelessness. Increasing income and housing stability for children and youth who have disabling conditions will provide a secure opportunity for wellness, recovery, and growth.
