HUD Releases 2017 HMIS Data Standards Data Dictionary

HUD has recently released the 2017 HMIS Data Dictionary, which documents the requirements for the programming and use of all HMIS systems and comparable database systems, effective October 1, 2017. HMIS software must be able to collect all the data elements defined within this HMIS Data Dictionary, support the system logic, including dependencies, identified in the document, and ensure that the data collection and the visibility of data elements is appropriate to the project type and federal funding source for any given project.
This release of the HMIS Data Dictionary supersedes the previously released 2016 HMIS Data Standards Data Dictionary Version 5.1. The 2016 versions of the HMIS Data Dictionary, Data Entry for HMIS Critical Data Standards Changes, and Data Mapping Instructions are still available on the HUD Exchange and can be found in the HMIS Data Dictionary resource abstract. Mapping instructions for the 2017 Data Dictionary will be available soon, so check back.
If you have questions about the data dictionary, please submit them through the HUD Exchange Ask a Question (AAQ) portal. On Step 2 of the question submission process, select “HMIS” in the “My question is related to” dropdown.

The National Veterans Technical Assistance Center (NVTAC) is hosting a webinar "Employment Readiness: Strategies and Assessments" on Thursday, May 11, 2017 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT.
What is "employment readiness" and how is it measured? Conducting employment assessments in HVRP is important to meeting job goals of veterans in the program and to bolster self-esteem. Assessment instruments can help staff determine occupational preferences, aptitude, soft skill strengths and challenges. Some of these may be performed at the HVRP, the American Job Center or other partnering agencies. However, interviewing skills remain the cornerstone of the assessment process. In this webinar facilitated by Ian Lisman from Advocates for Human Potential, we will review several assessment tools and here how some HVRPs are conducting employment assessments with their participants.

One, A Closer Look: Blueprints for Sound Financial Management is a series of seven topic focused modules, the other, Examining the Parts: Advanced Financial Management for CPD Programs, will cover financial management for five CPD programs, including HOME, CDBG, HOPWA, ESG, and CoC.
This online training series ensures that recipients and subrecipients can explore in depth, relevant topics in financial management.
