Equal Access for Gender equality in housing
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued its final rule requiring equal access for transgender people in federally funded homeless shelters. It amends the groundbreaking LGBT Equal Access Rule issued by HUD in 2012 that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status in public housing and HUD's core housing programs.

rapid re-housing and homeless prevention for veterans
The Senate has extended authorities for a number of programs that serve homeless veterans through its passage this week of HR 5985. Of particular note is its authorization of an additional $20 million for Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), the Department of Veteran Affairs' (VA) rapid re-housing and homeless prevention program and a critical component in its push to end veteran homeless

Reminder: application deadline for youth homelessness demonstration program
Applications for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Homeless Demonstration Program are due Nov. 20. As many as 10 communities will be awarded the funding needed to build a coordinated community plan to prevent and end youth homelessness.
