Stella Adams to Lead NCRC's Civil Rights Division NCRC has hired Stella Adams as chief of civil rights. Having most recently served as the senior policy advisor to the National Fair Housing Training Academy, Adams is a nationally-recognized expert in fair housing, predatory lending, mortgage fraud and investigation techniques, and is well known for her relentless commitment to underserved people and for pushing to hold accountable institutions that discriminate in lending and housing.
Waggoner most recently served as deputy director of the Southern California office, bringing to bear capital, capacity building tools, and more than $300 million in local investments. She has worked with the city of Los Angeles, banks and nonprofit development partners to create local funds for affordable housing and advocacy for low-income families.
NCLTN and Cornerstone Join Forces to Become the Grounded Solutions Network After 18 months of planning and several years of strong partnership, the National Community Land Trust Network and Cornerstone Partnership have joined forces. The result is a new organization of member practitioners from local communities: the Grounded Solutions Network. Among the first combined efforts of this new organization will be the September 2016 Intersections conference, the only national event dedicated to permanently affordable housing.

To be sure, funding to make housing more affordable is crucial, whatever the tools used to achieve that. But we also need to make these kinds of services available to poor renters on a widespread basis, starting with those most harmed by housing instability--children and their families . . .
Moderate-income renters are facing the same housing instability as low-income renters, yet they're rarely asked to be part of the discussion, despite paying more than their fair share of tax dollars . . . Until we start treating our moderate-income renters with the same sense of urgency, we can watch our cities and counties go further into debt as their tax bases move away or sink into poverty . . .
A large part of this has to be a look at municipalities . . . Until we find a way to make it easier for developers, especially private developers, to create affordable housing without subsidies, we'll never solve this . . . --Brian

Tenants far too often--as the recent report looking at evictions in Baltimore attests--lack legal representation and either have legal defense not raised or get pressured by the landlord's lawyer to accept an eviction.
