Sharing Information Across Physical and Behavioral Health: Debunking Myths & Developing Strategies Webinar - August 6, 2015 - 2:30 PM EDT
HUD’s Housing & Healthcare (H2) Technical Assistance Team is pleased to provide you with information on an upcoming webinar that is being hosted by the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP). In working with H2 planning session participants across the country, we frequently hear about the challenges that communities face in trying to integrate health, homeless and housing data.

“Integrating physical and mental health services requires that personal health information be shared appropriately across various settings in order to promote care coordination and better outcomes. In their efforts to support physical and mental health integration, state policymakers can sometimes face barriers to this flow of information due to federal and state laws, provider culture, technical roadblocks, and other factors.”
“This webinar will provide a brief overview by Karla Lopez from the Legal Action Center of the federal statutory framework, specifically in the context of integrating physical and behavioral health care. Presentations by state policymakers from New York and North Carolina will then highlight successful tools and strategies used by these states to support integrated care, including the development of standardized forms and tools, engaging behavioral health providers in using health IT, and working with diverse stakeholders to identify issues and solutions to state-specific problems. This webinar is supported by the Commonwealth Fund.”

An NASHP Issue Brief on States’ Enrollment Experiences in Implementing Health Coverage Eligibility and Enrollment Systems Under the ACA
In implementing Affordable Care Act (ACA) eligibility and enrollment requirements, states encountered significant opportunities and challenges in: creating or updating their systems, collaborating with other state and federal agencies, and developing new processes to support enrollment. Many states, as well as federal agencies, have been highly innovative in their implementation of the ACA requirements, and the resulting approaches set a new standard for promoting effective enrollment in public programs.
Drawing on key informant interviews and ongoing engagement with states between 2013 and 2015, this brief by the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) examines states’ early experiences implementing the ACA eligibility and enrollment requirements, highlights promising practices and lessons learned, provides some context on the state experience, and concludes with possible areas of focus for future enrollment and implementation efforts.
