ALERT: Proposed Cuts to PATH Program and other SAMHSA Homeless Programs
Dear PATH Grantees and Providers,
We wanted to reach out and let you know about large cuts proposed in Congress. This information is for you and for PATH and other homeless service providers. The Appropriations Bills from the House and Senate propose large cuts to the Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program under SAMHSA. The Senate proposes a $25 million cut to PATH for FY16, which is a 38% cut from the $65 million budget in FY15. The House is proposing $10 million cut to PATH or a 15% cut.
In addition, the House and Senate are proposing $2 million cut to SAMHSA homeless programs (3% cut) and the Senate is proposing a $50 million cut to the Substance Abuse Block Grant (3% cut).
These cuts would be devastating to our efforts to end homelessness and provide services to the most vulnerable in our communities. Please help us by contacting your representatives in Congress and asking them to restore funds to these programs, particularly if your representative is listed at the bottom of this email. The Congress goes on recess during the month of August so reach out soon or invite your representative to visit your programs. If you do reach out please let us know about the type of response you get.
