Continuing resolution may set agency funding at 2014 levels

Lawmakers on the House Appropriations committee are discussing the creation of a continuing resolution that would fund the government at fiscal 2014 levels, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said to reporters Sept. 9.
Hoyer, the House democratic whip, said chairman Harold Rogers, R-Kent., and ranking member Nita Lowey, D-N.Y. had talks about a continuing resolution in line with budget agreement passed in Dec. 2013. He also said that Congress may pass a continuing resolution before the end of the month in order to cut short the current legislative session.
"We will see whether that's the case," Hoyer said.
A Republican congressional staffer said they expect a continuing resolution to be set at 2014 levels and that it will probably run into December.
Congress needs to pass appropriations legislation before the end of September to avoid a government shutdown. In Oct, 2013, the government shut down from Oct. 1 to Oct. 16 before Congress was able to pass funding legislation.
