NCHV Webinar on Connecting to Benefits

NCHV Announces Webinar on Connecting to Benefits
August 5th at 2:00 p.m. EDT
Homeless veteran service providers, especially HVRP grantees and SSVF grantees with employment personnel, recognize the critical connection between a viable income and housing stability. Homeless veterans may be rapidly connected to housing, but they are better able to stay in housing when they are earning a livable wage. While placement in competitive employment may be the ultimate goal, service providers can utilize benefits payments to help homeless veterans find stability while they are seeking and even after obtaining employment.

Join the TA Center on August 5 at 2:00 p.m. EDT for the webinar “Connection to Income: Benefits Payments through VA and SSA”. This webinar will help local community agencies better connect their homeless veteran consumers to benefits from both the VA and Social Security Administration. Experts will share strategies for engaging more substantially with your VSO and community partners and navigating the sometimes complicated connection between disability benefits and employment.

Participants in this webinar will learn how local VSOs can help rapidly connect homeless veterans to their benefits and services and how to incorporate SSA benefits acquisition efforts into programs serving veterans using the SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) model. This training will also outline Social Security disability criteria and how it differs from VA benefit criteria with guidance on how SSA and VA benefits impact one another.

All trainings are voluntary, but HVRP grantees and their partners are encouraged to participate. Space is limited!

North Atlantic: SSVF Video Project (Additional Details)

Hi SSVF North Atlantic Team,

I hope that you are doing well. Please read through this email in detail (text at bottom and attachments). It was great to brainstorm with a few of you around ideas that you may submit for the SSVF video project. I am really excited. I think the North Atlantic region could be a leader in sharing field practices. This is your opportunity to influence our national learning and training strategy. I am including information (attached) about the video project as a follow up to our regional call in June and the Program Updates that have been sent by the Program Office.

As a heads up, we are also working on getting an informal call set up for any grantees that have questions or who just want to brainstorm with other grantees. More details to come.

Video submissions are due by August 15th.

Thanks so much!

Adrienne

Overview

We are starting an exciting new media project and are hoping you all will take part in it!  Regional Coordinators have noticed that many grantees have innovative practices and creative approaches that enhance your program's impact out in the field.  We want to capture examples of this kind of unique innovation.  The SSVF program office is issuing a Call for Video Entries on Field Practice Innovations asking grantees to create five minute, simple videos that illustrate one of your favorite innovations.  Examples might be: (1) a video about a special recognition technique for landlord champions, or (2) a video about a social media campaign that has worked for rural outreach.

This will be a chance to highlight one of your agency's best practices or creative approaches and pass it along to the entire SSVF nation for inspiration.  If your video works for this purpose, we will post it to the SSVF U and use it in other forums.  For our SSVF region of the country, I really want to get a lot of videos submitted so we are well represented in this project.  There are lots of ways to create your own videos these days, and your creative and technology savvy staff will probably be excited with this project.

A few things to consider:

·         The Call for Entries Flyer has ALL the details including examples of video topics
·         Make sure to read ALL the guidelines in the Call for Entries Flyer before you create a video
·         The video must be no more than 5 minutes in length
·         Grantees must submit a release for everyone appearing in the video
·         Videos must be in You Tube format and must be e-mailed to ssvfvideosubmit@tac.org
·         The deadline for submission is soon:  August 15th
·         The SSVF program office will contact your organization if your video is selected for posting to SSVF U.

URGENT: Code of Conduct

FYI: If your name as a Project Applicant is NOT on the list below, you must submit a current Code of Conduct prior to entering into a grant agreement with HUD in response to the next NOFA.

HUD's competitive funding Notice of Funding Availability (NOFAs) contain the requirement that an applicant must provide a copy of their Code of Conduct prior to entering into an agreement with HUD. Failure to provide a copy of an organization's Code of Conduct will prohibit applicants from receiving HUD funding.
The Code of Conduct:
1.    Must prohibit the solicitation and acceptance of gifts or gratuities by officers, employees, and agents for their personal benefit in excess of minimal value;
2.    Outline administrative and disciplinary actions available to remedy violations of such standards,
3.    Describe the method to be used to ensure that all officers, employees and agents of the organization are aware of the Code of Conduct, and
4.    Must be written on company letterhead that provides a mailing address, authorized official name, and telephone number.
To reduce the paperwork burden on applicants and HUD staff, starting in FY 2005, HUD will provide a look-up listing of all Code of Conducts that were submitted with the FY 2004 NOFA applications. Applicants/grantees who have a Code of Conduct posted at this website will not have to submit one with their FY 2005 grant application, unless the name of the organization or authorized official has changed.
